McClean Lake Operation 2007

DISCOVERED:   1979
OPERATION:   McClean Lake has the newest and most technologically advanced uranium mill in the world. The operation began producing yellowcake in 1999 using ore from the now completed JEB, Sue C, Sue A and Sue E open pit mines. The JEB pit has now been converted into a tailings management facility. In early 2001, McClean Lake received ISO 14001 environmental management certification. Crews are currently mining the Sue B open pit mine.
CAPACITY:  

Initially 6 million lbs. U3O8; annual licensed capacity increased to 8 million lbs. U3O8 (3,077 tonnes uranium) in 2001 and to 12 million lbs. U3O8 (4,615 tonnes uranium) in 2005.

PRODUCTION:  

1.9 million lbs. U3O8 (733.6 tonnes uranium)

RESERVES:   24.6 million lbs. U3O8 (9,462 tonnes uranium) in situ and stockpiled with an average grade of 1.4% U3O8
PLANS FOR 2008:  
  • Complete JEB mill expansion optimization and commissioning all new facilities
  • Completed mining of Sue E in early 2008 and now mining at Sue B open pit mine
  • Continue regulatory process for Caribou mine with the objective to start mining in 2009
  • Complete construction of new dormitory by summer 2008
