McClean Lake Operation and Cluff Lake Site
July 7, 2008
McClean Lake Operation
The new McClean Lake camp wing is now open; the first occupants moved in on Saturday, July 5th. This new wing adds 140 comfortable, quiet, and energy-efficient rooms. The existing living quarters are also being upgraded to increase comfort and energy efficiency.
At the 40th Annual Saskatchewan Mining Association Emergency Response/Mine Rescue Skills competition, McClean Lake's Emergency Response Team placed first in the Surface First Aid and Proficiency competitions. Our team's performance demonstrates AREVA Resources' commitment to health and safety on site.
Since the last Community Update there has been no spill at the site.
Midwest Project
Pending regulatory approvals, construction of the Midwest facilities and preparatory work for mining could begin in 2009. The Environmental Impact Statement has been submitted to the regulatory agencies for technical review.
Cluff Lake Site
Cluff Lake continues its post-closure monitoring activities. Surface, groundwater and radiation monitoring is on-going. The landfill expansion has started. The fertilization of the Tailings Management Area is now complete. Adjustments to the sewage treatment plant are still in progress. With the on-going exploration activities at Shea Creek there are approximately 45 people at the Cluff Lake site.
