AREVA > Home > Publications > Community Updates > Community Updates August 2006 Community Updates McClean Lake and Cluff Lake Projects August 25, 2006 McClean Lake Work is progressing on the expansion of the JEB mill to receive and process Cigar Lake ore to produce up to 12 million pounds U 3 O 8 annually. Ore removal at the Sue A open pit was completed at the end of March. Sue E open pit mining is progressing. The mill is now processing stockpiled ore from the Sue C and Sue A mines. The 2006 drilling program for the mining equipment development (MED) program is drilling and casing holes at the site near the entrance to the McClean Lake lease. The holes have been stopped as planned above the ore body. Test mining of the ore is expected to begin in September, starting from the bottom of the cased holes. McClean Lake has not had a spill since the last Community Update. The concentrations of elements contained in the water discharges during July were well below the limits set by the regulatory agencies. The first McClean Lake Family Tour was a success with 41 AREVA Resources employee family members from Saskatoon and La Ronge plus 6 from Stony Rapids and Fond du Lac touring the site. Another group (44 from Saskatoon and La Ronge plus 7 from Stony, Fond du Lac and Wollaston) is scheduled for August 26. Cluff Lake Cluff Lake 's 2-year decommissioning program that began in August 2004 is almost complete. The Cluff Lake site offices are now located at the camp. The mill was completely demolished and the area covered with soil. Snake Lake North American is continuing to do earth work as part of the site cleanup. About half a million trees were planted in the past year. Cluff Lake is no longer running a treatment plant or discharging effluent. The site has not had a spill since the last Community Update.
