COGEMA Resources announced today that its McClean Lake operation has been awarded ISO 14001 environmental management certification.

This milestone for the corporation means that McClean Lake's mine, mill and support services facility have achieved an international set of standards for maintaining an effective environmental management system. It's a voluntary international standard recognized in more than 90 countries.

"The McClean Lake operation is the first uranium mine in Canada and the first mine in Saskatchewan to attain this coveted standard," said Arnaud de Bourayne, COGEMA Resources President and Chief Executive Officer. "By defining the elements necessary to effectively manage its impact on the environment, COGEMA Resources, through McClean Lake, is leading the industry in environmental responsibility."

"KPMG Quality Registrar would like to take this opportunity to congratulate COGEMA Resources and the team at McClean Lake on achieving this ISO 14001 registration," said Mike Alexander, KPMG Vice President - Western Region. "We are well aware of the quantity of work and effort required to reach this goal."

ABOUT McCLEAN LAKE
Operated and majority owned by COGEMA Resources, the McClean Lake operation is located about 750 km. northeast of Saskatoon. It began production in June 1999. The McClean Lake uranium deposit was discovered in 1979. The mill was constructed from 1995 to 1998. The first new uranium mill to be licensed in North America in the past 15 years, it is the most innovative uranium mill in the world. The mill is processing ore from the mined JEB open pit mine and the nearby Sue pits. The mill is planned, subject to future approvals, to handle ore from the Midwest and the Cigar Lake mines. COGEMA's partners in the McClean Lake project are Denison Mines Limited (22.5%) and OURD (7.5%), a consortium of Japanese utilities.
