AREVA Resources Canada Inc's Cluff Lake and McClean Lake sites operate on a 24 hour a day, continuous operation. They are a home away from home for more than 300 employees and contractors working in mine and mill operations, maintenance, housekeeping, food and security services. Most employees work 11-hour shifts on a seven-day-in, seven-day-out schedule. Day shift generally starts at 7:00 a.m., night shift at 7:00 p.m. This round-the-clock activity creates a unique sense of community.
Employees fly in for their shifts from communities across Saskatchewan. For many, the flight has become a normal part of their weekly commute. The only thing missing is the traffic.
The McClean Lake camp is a fully modern facility with comfortable dormitory accommodation, dining room and support services. Indoor recreation facilities include a gymnasium, fitness area with weights and cardio equipment, games room and squash/racquetball court.
AREVA Resources Canada runs two separate recreation programs at McClean Lake - one for days and one for nights. Everything is open 24 hours, so employees and contractors can always find a cup of coffee and a friendly chat.
Staff volunteers help set the direction for recreational programming. Summer is high season for self-directed activities like fishing, canoeing, kayaking and mountain biking. The Recreation Department organizes a variety of special events, from Canada Day celebrations to an annual relay race.
Camp life picks up in winter. There's something happening in the gym at the end of every shift - archery, badminton, floor hockey, card tournaments. There is also a sewing club, library, musical instruments for people to play, and more.
McClean Lake provides a welcoming environment and access to quality recreational and social activities because we work where we live.
Cluff Lake, through more than two decades of operation, set the standard for camp life with facilities including a gym and golf driving range, activities including fishing and water skiing, and events such as ice soccer and septic tank races.
